The report shows that AI4S adoption among Chinese universities and research institutions is moving from proof-of-concept and research-group-level usage toward deeper pilots, broader diffusion, and platform-based deployment. China’s university and research institution AI4S cloud market was approximately RMB5.1 billion in 2025 and is projected to grow to RMB10.7 billion by 2030, representing a CAGR of approximately 16% from 2025 to 2030. Cloud infrastructure remains the current revenue base, while demand is evolving from “purchasing computing power” to “purchasing research productivity.” This shift is accelerating the penetration of integrated platform capabilities across scientific data, model tools, simulation and computation, agentic workflows, and automated experimentation. The report concludes that future competition will move beyond standalone computing or model capabilities toward an end-to-end research closed loop connecting computing power, data, models, experiments, and application scenarios.
