Orthopedic Surgery Robots
China’s orthopedic surgery robot market has developed a rich set of approved products, covering joint replacement, spine, trauma, and sports medicine, and it is gradually expanding to a full-orthopedic multi-indication platform. Among them, there are many participants in the joint and spine areas; the trauma area features two technical routes: “navigation and positioning” and “fracture reduction execution”, and the multi-in-one platform has become an important direction for enhancing equipment utilization and expanding clinical coverage.
In the joint replacement area, overseas Stryker and Zimmer Biomet maintain a first-mover advantage due to their mature joint prosthesis systems, while domestic companies such as YuanHua Intelligent,微创 Robotics, JianJia Medical, ChangmuGu, and HuaRuiBo are competing concurrently. As basic navigation and osteotomy capabilities gradually mature, the focus of competition is shifting to individualized planning, soft tissue balance, prosthesis compatibility, non-imaging or low-imaging workflows, and multi-procedure reuse.
In the spine area, products mainly focus on surgical registration, path planning, navigation and positioning, and robotic arm guidance nail placement. TianZhihang and Medtronic have an earlier clinical foundation, and domestic companies such as Rosenbot, BaiHuiWeiKang, and ZhuZheng have also begun to engage in the layout. As the positioning accuracy gradually converges, competition is further shifting to automatic registration, dynamic tracking, intraoperative imaging fusion, and the “imaging + navigation + robot” integrated workflow.
In the trauma field, China has established a development pattern characterized by navigation and positioning products as the primary focus and gradually emerging breakthroughs in fracture reduction products. Enterprises such as Baihuiwei Kang, Tianzhihang, and Taodao Medical mainly focus on navigation and positioning of instruments and implants in the pelvis, limbs, and complex trauma; Rosenbot enters pelvic fracture closed reduction, leveraging intelligent reduction planning, high-load mechanical execution, and force-position feedback control to extend the robot’s intervention depth from “determining the placement of the instrument” to “participating in the actual reduction of bone fragments”. Future competition is likely to shift from mere navigation accuracy to intelligent planning, mechanical execution, dynamic feedback, and multi-indication platform capabilities.
In the sports medicine field, China is still in the early commercialization stage, with a significantly smaller number of specially approved products compared to joint replacement and spinal robotics. Current products primarily focus on bone channel navigation, navigation drilling, and surgical planning in the reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament and other knee ligament systems. In the future, this field may expand from bone channel navigation to soft tissue tension assessment, kinematic analysis, and functional reconstruction.
Regarding multi-purpose platforms, Chinese orthopedic robots are evolving from “one machine, one technique” to “one machine, multiple indications”. Enterprises such as Taodao Medical, Tianzhihang, and Jianjia Medical have earlier achieved coverage of multiple sub-specialties including joints, spine, and trauma; Yuanhua Intelligence has further developed a “five-in-one” comprehensive orthopedic platform, while Huaruibo and Changmu Valley have incorporated sports medicine into a unified platform. As hospitals place greater emphasis on equipment utilization and repeat purchase costs, competition will shift from the number of indications to hardware reuse across different surgical procedures, software switch efficiency, and clinical workflow integration capabilities.

Analysis of the Policy Evolution in the Medical Robotics Industry
China's policy framework for medical robotics has evolved from early emphasis on core technology research and development and domestic innovation, to increasingly covering key aspects such as product industrialization, hospital deployment approval, and medical service payment. The policy support logic has shifted from "encouraging research and development" to a full lifecycle coverage: "research and development—approval—hospital deployment—use—payment", thereby continuously eliminating institutional barriers to the large-scale clinical application of domestic medical robots.
Policy Encouragement for the Development of Intelligent Medical Robotics Systems
China's policy support for the intelligent medical robotics industry has evolved from early encouragement for robotics technology research and development, to increasingly covering high-end medical equipment innovation, integrated artificial intelligence applications, and industrialization promotion. The policy framework continues to strengthen support for core technology breakthroughs, product research and development, and clinical applications in medical robotics.
Simplified Acquisition Approval Policy
China's policy for the configuration of large-scale medical equipment continues to evolve from strict approvals to categorized management, moderate relaxed controls, and encouragement for updates, creating a more favorable policy environment for the accelerated hospital deployment and expanded clinical application of high-end medical equipment such as surgical robots.
Support Policy for Import Substitution
China continues to promote the improvement of independent research and development and industrialization capabilities for high-end medical equipment, domestic substitution, and optimization of large-scale medical equipment configuration, thereby enhancing the capabilities of surgical robots and other high-end medical devices to develop independently and achieve industrialization. The policy orientation is shifting from merely encouraging domestic innovation to coordinated advancement toward clinical application, procurement and configuration, and import substitution.
Related Medical Insurance Policies
The medical robot medical insurance payment policy in China is currently undergoing local pilot projects for charging and the inclusion of some items in the medical insurance system, gradually evolving toward disease-based payment, separate itemization, and standardized payment standards. The payment mechanism for related operation fees and supporting consumables for surgical robots is continuously being improved, which helps to reduce patients' burden and enhance the clinical application enthusiasm of medical institutions.
03
Capital market dynamics in the medical robot industry
Key considerations for the listing review of medical robot companies
For medical robot companies, the capital market review focus has shifted from whether the product can obtain a registration certificate to further attention to the clinical value of core products, relative competitiveness, commercial sustainability, intellectual property independence, and actual hospital usage. The review logic has progressed from "technical feasibility" to "verifiable commercial closed loop".
Evolution of the valuation logic for medical robot companies
In the early stages of the medical robot industry, since most companies had not yet achieved large-scale revenue, the capital market's valuation of these companies was more based on core technical barriers, number of under-development products, clinical trial progress, and expected product registration. At this stage, whether a company could break through key technologies, establish a competitive product pipeline, and obtain regulatory approvals from bodies such as the NMPA and FDA was an important factor affecting the valuation level.
As products are successively approved and enter hospitals, the valuation logic begins to shift from "whether the product can be manufactured" to "whether the product can truly be commercialized". Indicators such as equipment orders, number of hospital installations, doctor coverage, market share, and clinical application scope become significantly more important, and the capital market begins to pay more attention to whether a company can convert technical and product advantages into real revenue growth.
After entering the large-scale commercial stage, the mere number of installations is no longer sufficient to fully reflect the business operating quality. Single-machine utilization rate, number of surgeries or treatments, consumable and service revenue, gross profit margin, and profit path are gradually becoming the core elements of valuation. Whether the equipment continues to generate clinical use, and the regular revenue from consumables, software, and maintenance arising from equipment installations, directly determine the long-term cash flow quality and the sustainability of the business model.

Analysis of the overseas expansion trends of medical robots
In recent years, the internationalization process of Chinese medical robot companies has significantly accelerated, and their overseas expansion models have evolved from early overseas registration and product sales to mature market access in Europe and the United States, overseas clinical validation, and local operation. Domestic medical robots are upgrading from "product export" to "clinical export" and "system export".
In recent years, as domestic medical robots continue to make breakthroughs in core technology, product registration, and clinical application, leading domestic companies have begun to accelerate their global market deployment. Unlike traditional medical devices, which mainly enter overseas markets based on cost and manufacturing advantages, medical robots are high-tech, high-clinical-barrier medical devices; their internationalization relies more on product performance, regulatory certification, clinical evidence, doctor recognition, and local service capabilities. As overseas access and clinical application continue to advance, the overseas expansion models of Chinese medical robot companies are continuously evolving to deeper levels.
Figure: Continuous deepening of China's medical robot overseas expansion models

Source: Frost & Sullivan analysis
As the overseas expansion stage continues to deepen, the international competition focus of Chinese medical robot companies is also changing. In the early stages of internationalization, the main concern was whether the product could complete overseas registration and establish channels, but after entering mature markets, the importance of clinical evidence, benchmark hospital applications, and doctor recognition becomes significantly greater; when companies further enter the large-scale commercial stage, local sales, training, after-sales, and maintenance systems become key factors affecting long-term competitiveness. The overseas expansion of medical robots has gradually evolved from a competition based on single-product capabilities to a comprehensive competition involving regulation, clinical practice, channels, and service systems.
