Zhang Tao, Founder and CEO of Pudu Robotics

On August 30th, the 18th Frost & Sullivan China Growth, Innovation and Leadership Summit and the 3rd New Investment Conference (hereinafter referred to as '2024 Frost & Sullivan New Investment Conference') Intelligent Manufacturing Sub-forum was held in Shanghai, hosted by Frost & Sullivan, a globally leading growth consulting company.

At this Intelligent Manufacturing Sub-forum, Zhang Tao, Founder and CEO of Pudu Robotics, shared the company's development journey from its inception to the present, deeply analyzed the company's current stable development momentum and outstanding market performance, and elaborated on the background and profound significance of the R2X concept. In addition, Zhang Tao also emphasized the company's strategic layout in global channel construction, aiming to bring Pudu Robotics' innovative achievements and high-quality services to more users around the world, and jointly promote the prosperous development of the robotics industry.

Here are the key points of Zhang Tao's speech:

Development history and current situation of Pudu Robotics

Zhang Tao introduced in detail the company's patent accumulation and cumulative shipments since its establishment, and analyzed the market scale of commercial service robots. He particularly emphasized that according to Frost & Sullivan data, Pudu's share of the global commercial service robot market by revenue reached 23% in 2023, making it the largest commercial service robot enterprise in the world.

Pudu's product line comprehensively covers three core areas: service delivery robots, cleaning robots, and industrial delivery robots. Among them, commercial cleaning robots, as the company's main product, contribute 60% of the company's total revenue. In addition, Pudu has won six top awards in the international industrial design field with its outstanding design strength, thus establishing a benchmark position in the business service field.

Establishment of the R2X concept

Zhang Tao elaborated in depth on the origin, application scope of the R2X concept and the value-added benefits it creates for manufacturers and customers. He pointed out that the R2X concept originated from the dual challenges of coordination obstacles and lack of industry standards encountered by customers in integrating multi-brand robots. The core value of R2X lies in its dual interconnection capabilities: on the one hand, it promotes seamless integration of robots with various devices; on the other hand, it drives collaborative operations among robots of different brands.

This innovative concept shows broad application prospects, especially suitable for scenarios such as hotel lobbies, and can efficiently coordinate multiple robots to jointly execute diversified tasks such as delivery and cleaning. The proposal of R2X aims to lead the establishment of industry standards, not only strengthening cooperation among manufacturers and product interoperability, but also greatly simplifying the customer's use, learning, maintenance and management processes, thereby significantly improving the customer experience.

Overseas channel construction

Zhang Tao elaborated in detail on Pudu's three overseas expansion strategies: focusing on overseas markets, deeply cultivating downstream industries, and implementing localization strategies.

First of all, Zhang Tao outlined Pudu's current overseas market layout, covering twelve primary markets and five secondary markets, widely covering Europe, North America, Australia, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Latin America. Pudu has established local offices in five countries around the world and hired local employees, and has successfully served more than 600 customers around the world, including SoftBank.

Then, he introduced the extensive downstream application fields of Pudu products, covering multiple industries such as catering, entertainment, sports, retail, industry and hotels. Pudu's customer base is mainly top KA customers in various industries around the world, such as Haidilao and Pizza Hut in the catering industry, Walmart and Carrefour in the retail industry, Samsung in the industrial industry, and Mercy Hospital, the largest hospital in the United States in the medical field.

Finally, Zhang Tao emphasized the importance of localization strategies. He believes that true globalization cannot be separated from in-depth localization. Pudu's localization strategy mainly focuses on two areas: sales management and product localization. Taking the successful case of Pudu's designed Bella robot in the Japanese market as an example, he pointed out that multiple dimensions such as appearance, performance, quality, customer experience, innovation and cost control are all key factors to enhance product competitiveness. He reiterated that product quality is an important guarantee for Chinese enterprises to succeed in going global, and at the same time emphasized that customer experience should run through the entire process from purchase, pick-up to use.
