Recently, the 18th Frost & Sullivan China Growth, Innovation and Leadership Summit 2024, co-hosted by Frost & Sullivan and LeadLeo, and the 3rd New Investment Conference were successfully held at the Jing'an Ruiji Hotel in Shanghai. The theme of this year's Frost & Sullivan New Investment Conference is 'Gather Strength & Win the Future with Quality'. It brings together the wisdom and strength of the global industry, academia, and investment community to jointly explore new growth points, new markets, and new tracks for China's economy in the new era.

Dr. Sun Jianping, President of the Shanghai Modern Service Industry Federation

At the opening ceremony of the conference, Dr. Sun Jianping, President of the Shanghai Modern Service Industry Federation, delivered a speech focusing on "Empowering the High-Quality Development of Modern Service Industries with New Productive Forces." He pointed out that the service industry is undergoing five trendic changes: industry innovation, integration, digitization and intelligence, personalized services, and platform-based and ecological trends. These trends provide new opportunities and challenges. In the future, the development of modern service industries will exhibit eight characteristics: high added value, knowledge-intensive, technology-driven, customer customization, promotion of industrial upgrading, innovation and research and development, improvement of production efficiency, and support for sustainable development. The federation will continue to play a bridging role, build communication and cooperation platforms, and empower the high-quality development of modern service industries with new productive forces.

*The following is the main content of Dr. Sun Jianping's speech, organized by Frost & Sullivan.

Distinguished leaders and friends,

I am very pleased to participate in today's Frost & Sullivan conference. This is the first time that the Shanghai Modern Service Industry Federation has collaborated with Frost & Sullivan, and it is also the first time in 18 years that the Frost & Sullivan conference has visited Jing'an. I was the district Party secretary of Jing'an 10 years ago, so I am very excited to be here today for this event. What I want to share with you is about modern service industries. Nowadays, as our service industries are advancing alongside new quality productivity, the situation we are facing and our countermeasures are as follows.

Along with new productive forces, the service industry has five weaknesses:

  • Firstly, the quality of talent needs to be improved; otherwise, modern service industries will seriously mismatch our new productive forces.

  • Second, the degree of digitization needs to be improved;

  • Third, the degree of greening needs to be improved;

  • Fourth, the level of technical equipment needs to be improved;

  • Fifth, the depth and breadth of productive services need to be improved.

Additionally, the service industry is exhibiting five trendic changes:

  • First, industry innovation trends;

  • Second, the trend of industry integration;

  • Third, the trend towards digitalization and intelligence;

  • Fourth, the trend of personalized services;

  • Fifth, the trend towards platformization and ecologicalization;

The trended changes in these five aspects have already emerged.

Thirdly, there are ten service sectors that urgently need empowerment. This is a point that has come up prominently in our recent survey. That is to say, these sectors are emerging, but they require empowerment.

The first is digital culture and tourism services, the second is online education services, the third is telemedicine services, the fourth is personalized smart health services, the fifth is smart home services, the sixth is smart elderly care services, the seventh is live streaming and instant retail services, the eighth is shared economy platform services, the ninth is green and sustainable services, and the tenth is digital governance services.

Over a month ago, Mayor Tu gave a speech to our Entrepreneurs of the Modern Service Industry Federation, focusing on the development of ESG in Shanghai. After the meeting, Mayor Tu told me that Shanghai should be at the forefront of ESG promotion nationwide. To achieve this, there is a huge demand for services related to ESG development among enterprises. Therefore, a new service industry sector will emerge around ESG, which represents a major development opportunity. During the transformation and development process, enterprises have identified ten important areas for lending and empowerment services.

Eight characteristics of the modernization of the service industry:

  • First, high added value;

  • Second, knowledge-intensive;

  • Third, technology-driven;

  • Fourth, customer customization;

  • Fifth, promote industrial upgrading;

  • Sixth, innovation and research and development;

  • Seventh, improve production efficiency;

  • Eighth, support sustainable development.

Therefore, these aspects can explain why the logical relationships between various activities participated in by the Federation of Service Industries are reflected here.

I spent one minute promoting the Shanghai Modern Service Industry Federation. Nineteen years ago, Shanghai's economic structure was heavily skewed towards manufacturing, with Mayor Tu still in charge of municipal government affairs. At that time, our manufacturing sector was extremely strong while the service industry was relatively weak. Therefore, in order to promote the adjustment of the economic structure, Shanghai made many institutional designs, environmental improvements, and ecological creations in 2005. It also made an institutional arrangement by specifically establishing the Shanghai Modern Service Industry Federation to drive the development of the service industry in Shanghai. Over the past nineteen years, today's Shanghai Modern Service Industry Federation has direct member units of 1,563, including 209 industry associations, and indirect members of 80,000 households. We build platforms, match resources, provide services, and boost development.

The opinions I expressed earlier represent the thoughts of many enterprises in this regard. If a social organization wants to have a certain impact today, we must first be representative, and we have achieved this through three things:

  • Firstly, it represents the development direction and requirements of Shanghai's modern service industry.

  • Secondly, it represents the development trends and needs of the Shanghai modern service industry;

  • Thirdly, it represents the core interests and demands of Shanghai's modern service industry enterprises.

In this way, we can effectively represent them and continuously overcome the weaknesses of the service industry as it progresses alongside new productive forces. This will support the modern service industry in playing a better role in Shanghai's future development.

Thank you very much for the invitation to this conference! That's all for my presentation for today. Thank you all!
