Dr. Song Rongjun stated that as a general technology platform, mRNA drugs feature rapid transformation from design to product. Beyond preventive vaccines, therapeutic applications are continuously expanding. The underlying technologies of mRNA drugs mainly include mRNA sequence design and delivery carriers. Among them, the delivery carrier determines whether the drug can be effectively loaded, stabilized, delivered precisely, and released in vivo, making it crucial for moving mRNA drugs from a platform to a product.
Dr. Song Rongjun pointed out that currently, the global mRNA delivery field still faces multiple challenges such as patent barriers, stability, safety, and efficacy. Focusing on these issues, Weishen Biotech focuses on nano-targeted delivery carriers, aiming to achieve selective delivery to organs and cells. By using three strategies: new excipients, new formulations, and new target ligands, the company improves delivery efficiency and targeting ability.

According to Dr. Song Rongjun, Weishen Biotech has established an independent innovation system around LNP delivery carriers. Through AI design of new ionizable lipids, development of new formulation combinations, and modification of different target ligands on the LNP surface, the company achieves selective targeted delivery to various cell types. The company's LNP-related patents have been authorized in many countries and regions including China, the United States, and Europe, and officiallyFTO"with analysis support, an independent LNP platform has been established."
Dr. Song Rongjun shared that Weishen's self-developed delivery carriers demonstrate distinct advantages in protein expression, stability, and safety. Relevant data show that the company's new LNP can achieve extrahepatic targeted delivery, with improved room temperature stability compared to existing products; in GLP safety evaluations, no significant toxic side effects were observed in rhesus monkeys, rats, and guinea pigs models. Additionally, this platform has supported clinical studies involving intramuscular injection and intravenous administration, covering healthy subjects and patients with tumors and autoimmune diseases. In China and the United States, a total of 8 Phase I and II clinical approvals have been obtained.

Dr. Song Rongjun said that Weishen Biotech's nano-targeted delivery platform has strong extensibility, applicable to multiple drug delivery scenarios such as mRNA, siRNA, nuclear medicine, peptides/proteins, and small molecule drugs. In the mRNA direction, the platform can cover vaccines, tumor treatment, and in vivo CAR-T applications; in the siRNA direction, it can explore applications in tumors, atherosclerosis, acute lung injury, etc.; in the peptides/proteins direction, it can expand to hypertension, hyperlipidemia, obesity, and adjuvants.

"Dr. Song Rongrong stated that on June 9 this year, Weixin Biotech and the NASDAQ listed company"Cartesian"announced a strategic cooperation and licensing agreement to jointly develop in vivo CAR-T and T cell engager (TCE) therapies based on mRNA and tLNP technologies for treating autoimmune diseases. According to the agreement, Cartesian will obtain the right to use Weixin Biotech's tLNP platform in the collaborative project. Both parties will combine Cartesian's clinically validated CAR and TCE assets with Weixin Biotech's independently developed clinically validated mRNA and targeted delivery technologies to develop next-generation in vivo cell therapy products. Weixin Biotech will be primarily responsible for early research and development of the collaborative project, while Cartesian will handle subsequent global clinical development and commercialization efforts. The related research and development costs will be borne by Cartesian. According to the agreement terms, for each individual collaborative project, Weixin Biotech will receive an upfront payment, as well as milestone payments for development, registration, and commercialization. Additionally, Weixin Biotech will share potential future sublicensing revenues and product sales royalties."

Cartesian has clinically validated CAR assets, and its core product Descartes-08 is currently in phase III clinical development for general myasthenia gravis (gMG). Weixin Biotech has a safe LNP delivery platform that has been authorized with more than 20 patents in China, the US, Europe, and Japan.
