China’s database industry is undergoing a phase of sustained upgrading. Driven by national “Xinchuang” policies and the convergence of cloud-native, AI and HTAP technologies, databases are playing an increasingly fundamental role in supporting the development of Digital China.
From a market structure perspective, China’s database market remains dominated by relational databases, while non-relational databases are accelerating their penetration. In on-premises centralized relational database deployment scenarios, domestic databases have achieved relatively high penetration in non-core business systems across multiple industries and are gradually expanding into core business systems in key sectors such as government, telecommunications, healthcare, and manufacturing. The number of newly installed on-premises centralized relational database systems increased from 111,000 in 2024 to 120,400 in 2025. Among these, openGauss and DBV partner editions accounted for 35.02% of new installations, ranking first in this segment.
Looking ahead, China’s database industry is expected to continue benefiting from the development of cloud computing and open-source ecosystems. The integration of databases with cloud-native architectures and AI technologies will further deepen, and industry competition will increasingly hinge on a combination of underlying technological capabilities, ecosystem collaboration capabilities, and large-scale deployment in key industries.
