In 2025, global shipments of residential energy storage batteries reached 106.0 GWh. This robust growth was mainly driven by the widespread rollout of rooftop photovoltaic systems. Households adopted matching energy storage systems to maximize self-consumption of on-site solar power and cut electricity bills. Meanwhile, the continuous decline in lithium-ion battery costs greatly improved the cost-effectiveness of energy storage systems, making them affordable for a growing number of households. Subsidies, tax breaks and low-interest loan policies introduced by governments worldwide, coupled with rising retail electricity prices, further boosted installation demand. Additionally, global carbon neutrality targets and heightened awareness of energy independence have led households to regard energy storage as an essential backup power source, jointly fueling rapid market penetration.

Looking ahead, the large-scale rollout of Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) will act as a core growth driver. By aggregating residential batteries to participate in power market transactions and frequency regulation services, VPPs will generate extra revenue for end users. Demand for high-capacity residential battery systems is also rising, and the integrated PV-plus-storage installation model is gaining traction, spurring demand for system integration services. Advances in smart energy management systems, the electrification of residential loads, and integration with electric vehicle charging scenarios will further raise the added value of energy storage batteries.
